New coach, same old Brohm
LOUISVILLE --New coach. New playbook. New terminology.
But it's still football to the Louisville Cardinals as they started the first day of spring practice under new coach Steve Kragthorpe.
"The terminology is different," quarterback Brian Brohm said after the team's first spring practice yesterday. "Obviously, there are a lot of things that are the same. Football is football."
The 21 returning starters, including 14 seniors, got their first workout under Kragthorpe, who replaced Bobby Petrino after he took a job with the Altanta Falcons.
The team practiced in helmets, T-shirts and shorts for about two hours in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
"We'll throw the pads on on Sunday and actually start playing some real football and discontinue this powder-puff stuff," Kragthorpe said.
The practice was open to the public and a few hundred Cardinal fans showed up to watch. They saw Brian Brohm do one of the things he did so well last season to lead Louisville to 12 wins, including the Orange Bowl -- throw bombs to wide receivers Harry Douglas and |
