Preseason picks slighting West Virginia's White
MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia quarterback Patrick White is a young man of few words ... that is, off the field when he's being interviewed by the media.
But the numbers that the 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior from Daphne, Ala., posted last year speak volumes -- loud and clear.
Yet I'm getting the distinct impression, from early preseason projections, that White is being vastly -- and strangely -- shortchanged.
The poor guy wasn't even accorded a spot on the All-Big East Conference first team by any among three national publications to date.
Those magazines selected senior Brian Brohm of Louisville as the league's top quarterback, relegating White to the second team.
This, despite the fact that Big East coaches chose White the conference's offensive player of the year for 2006 and, of course, rating him the No. 1 signal caller.
