MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Nov. 9 Quarterback Patrick White ran 50 yards for a score with 96 seconds remaining Thursday night, giving No. 6 West Virginia a 38-31 win over Louisville.
White rescued the Mountaineers after they let a 17-point lead get away in the second half.
West Virginia kept its national title hopes alive, improving to 8-1 for the year and to 3-1 in the Big East Conference. The Mountaineers trail Connecticut by a game in the league race.
Louisville fell to 5-5 and 2-3.
White threw two touchdown passes in the first period and was good on 16-of-25 passes for 185 yards without an interception.
But the Mountaineers fumbled the ball away three times, the last of those miscues setting up a 37-yard field goal by Art Carmody that tied the game with 2:10 remaining.
West Virginia was facing second down with eight yards to go when White broke free for his touchdown run.
