The University of Louisville has hired Western Michigan defensive coordinator Bill Miller as linebackers coach.
He replaces Ted Roof, who spent less than two months with the Cardinals before leaving to become Minnesota's defensive coordinator.
Miller, 51, helped the Broncos lead the Mid-American Conference in pass-efficiency defense while finishing second in sacks and fourth in total defense in 2007. Miller's previous coaching stops include Arizona State, Florida, Michigan State and Miami.
Miller will help try to revamp a U of L defense that was among the nation's worst last season. The Cardinals finished near the bottom of the Football Bowl Subdivision in several major statistical categories, including total defense and scoring defense, during a disappointing 6-6 season.
