The Bears' NFC North rivals did not add any Adrian Petersons this time.
The Packers made the most interesting move in the division when they selected quarterback Brian Brohm of Louisville with the 25th pick of the second round.
No one knew the Packers were in a market for a young quarterback. Their selection of Brohm might say something about their confidence, or lack of it, in Aaron Rodgers.
It is more likely the Packers thought so much of Brohm they believed they could not pass on him at that point of the draft. Brohm came into the 2007 season as the top-ranked quarterback, and he did not have a disappointing season in any way. But like Rodgers before him, he fell precipitously on draft day.
General manager Ted Thompson said he tried to trade up into the second round to take Brohm, but was unable to.
"He'll be fine," Thompson said of Rodgers at a news conference. "Aaron's a pro. He knows this is his gig now."
Of course, that won't stop Brohm from trying to compete.
"I'm just going to keep going about my business and work as hard as I can and let the coaches make those decisions," Brohm said.
